coms326 students trying Yola:

  • Brittney Rader

Yola has an interesting approach to editing in an "HTML Editor" popup window, minus the "head" section of the Web page, which is governed by the template. You can type raw HTML code or paste in code created with Dreamweaver or another editor.

So, can you modify the CSS styles? Yes, you can test a fill-in-the-blanks CSS editor for free, but you can't permanently save the changes. If my quick browse around the site is right, that costs $99 a year "Silver" service.

See the "Pricing" tab on the Yola.com/blog page for more info.

There are workarounds... For instance, I was not happy with the way links were presented by this default template -- no underlining, no color, and the same type font at the body text. So I added a traditionsl link-blue color and underlining to to the links on this page with inline span/style tags in all the links. Not sophisticated, but it worked.

But inline styles do work, along with simple HTML tags like strong. The H2 headline and UL list above are more demonstrations.

For someone comparing easy-to-use sites, Yola could be fun.
